Switching from PC to MAC

I have always been a PC lover and MAC hater. But in December of 2011 I switched to using the MacBook Air...primarily because I have to bring my computer to school everyday and my new iPad at the time just was not able to do all the things I needed to do on the go. Needless to say I have been using my MAC for almost a year and I have to say I LOVE IT!

Just this past week I have edited a PDF document without needing to buy or download new software! In presentation mode this computer is so easy to use! I can see my notes right as I am presenting without having to flip through my notes on paper.

Everything Syncs from my MAC to my iPAD seemlessy and for those things connected to my Samsung Galaxy S3....I havent hadnt any problems either.

So if you are working on your doctorate and looking for a computer that is light and easy to carry around so you can get work done just about anytime you need to then invest in a MacBook Air! Its worth every penny!

I could go on and on about why I love this computer but I guess as I think of them I will post again in the future. Now on to my reading for the day!

Late Night Ideas

So earlier this week as I was preparing to teach my class on Wednesday morning, I lamented over the best way to get the material and information across to the students...I am after all a novice teacher :)

And as with my writing I suffered from the same problem....the bright idea or solution didn't come to until the 11th hour. I wonder though am I the only doc student who has this problem? It has plagued me since I started college and I just really wish I could fix it.....I am having the same problem now as I finish up preparing to teach in the morning. This time to Doc and Masters level students....I am sitting on the edge already and haven't even gotten in front of the class.....

Proposal writing

So ever procrastinate on a project, and miss the deadline. And then the deadline is extended. Well that's what happened for this proposal I was working on. But then again I wonder how much of it is procrastination and how much is fearing someone else reading something I wrote.

You see I do have to admit that I do have some amount of fear in someone reading something I have written and critiquing it (yes I am working on a doctorate and admitted that).... as well its more that likely its reviewed by someone I don't know and well this is their first impression of me as a scholar and I just might be applying for a job somewhere near them soon....

And as such I have challenged myself to get over that fear this year! While we very seldom admit our fears as it relates to writing as doc students... I did for the first time last year for someone else to hear and have since finished one article that has been published, one conference proposal that was accepted, and how could I not mention successfully writing and defending my comprehensive examination last spring.

And as such this weekend it is my goal to finish another project I started.... And submit it for review.

Understanding today's employees: US Jamaica immigrants who are they

So as I prepare to complete another conference proposal, I think I have narrowed in on my topic. While some might ask the question why would the masses in America care about such a small group... I think it goes without saying... US Jamaica immigrants are in our workplaces and they bring with them a distinct culture that needs to be understood by those managing them. Whether your employee is first or second or third or fourth generation Jamaican, as an employer you will want to understand this group.

More to come in the near future... Maybe if this proposal is accepted I can turn it into a paper for a journal.

Walk good.

Back on the grind

What I hope to be my final fall semester in school has started and so many new things have to. I I started a new assistant ship, now I am a teaching assistant so I am hoping that my experience this semester will help me improve my skills in that area. I also have the opportunity this semester to be co-instructing a doctoral and masters level course in an area that I am super interested in... Training so yes I am excited for this fall. Also this is the semester when I defend my thesis so boy oh boy there are so many things ahead for me. Let me not forget I present at a conference in Vegas so I am really geeked.

I also have a personal goal that is not related to school and that is for me to work our at least 3 times a week this semester. I need so much guidance there as that seems to always be the first thing I give up when the going gets tough during the semester. If I can maintain it then I am getting myself something really nice in December. I am not yet sure what it will be but I keep telling myself that it will be so worth it.

Walk good my followers... Until next time.
